For God’s sake, can we get through one month without some mind-boggling idiocy from one of the band game franchises? This time it’s Rock Band, and to illustrate what they’ve done now, here’s a transcript of the email that I sent to EA.
Hello. I am emailing to inquire about an EA game called Rock Band Unplugged, for Sony PSP.
As far as I know, this game was never released in Australia, so my question is why is downloadable content, aka DLC, being released on the Australian PSP store?
When I discovered that Australia didn’t have a release date for this game, I bought it from the US. However, new songs are being added to the store every week, and these songs do not work with my US copy. So if the DLC is region locked, how am I supposed to use it? Will a UK copy work with the Australian DLC? Or has the game been released in Australia, and if so where can I purchase it from? I have never seen it on a store shelf or advertised in-store or anything.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Here is the reply I got.
To the best of our knowledge, the DLC on the Australian store will only work on an Australian copy. They’ve made it available so that it will be there if the game is eventually released here.
And yes, it seems a bit odd to us too.
Regards,
EA Support.
Do I really need to say any more than that?

Haha, that’s awesome, in a shitty game developer kinda way.

Ha, that’s brilliant. It also gives a bit of an insight into the lack of control EA has over their own product.
Though isn’t Rock Band Unplugged available on the Australian PSN?

The demo is available, but I’ve never seen the full game there.
And no, you can’t use DLC on the Australian demo.
EDIT: The Aussie store actually does have Rock Band Lite- a 5 track version of RB Unplugged that DLC is compatible with. Still, not being able to use DLC in the full game (for custom playlists and such) is a massive cop out any way you look at it.
Also, following on from what PG said, the EA rep’s lack of knowledge regarding RB Lite, aka. THEIR OWN GAME, is pretty damning.
